The Movie
Footloose is based on a true story; homing from Elmore City, Oklahoma in 1979.
Released in 1984 Footloose was directed by Herbert Ross and is distributed by Paramount Pictures.
The movie stars Kevin Bacon as Ren, Dianne Wiest as his mother and Lori Singer as the rebellious Ariel.
The film also featured Sarah Jessica Parker (of Sex and the City fame) as Ariel’s friend Rusty and John Lithgow as Reverend Moore, now familiar as the father figure in TV series Third Rock from the Sun.
Dean Pitchford, wrote the story, screenplay, and lyrics for the film, collaborating with a variety of composers, including Kenny Loggins and Eric Carmen.
2011 is also the year that the highly anticipated film remake of FOOTLOOSE starring Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell is released in cinemas.
