TONIGHT I gota cut loose Footloose, kick off my Sunday shoes!
What … a… show!
At the opening night of Footloose at the Pavilion Theatre, Rhyl, my niece Mia and I are transported back to the 1980s era of denim, big hair and cheesy music (my kind of era!).
A slick first scene on a Chicago dance floor is just a taster of what the show is going to deliver, fantastic dance moves, great music and America accents!
It is here we meet Ren McCormack – his father has walked out on his mother, unable to stay in the city, the pair move to Bomont, a small peaceful town – until city boy, Ren, arrives.
Based on the hit ‘80s movie (which launched the careers of Kevin Bacon, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jon Lithgow), Footloose has become a stage musical phenomenon.
From Broadway to the West End and touring across the UK, it is packed full of electrifying dance routines, guaranteed to get you to your feet.
Ren soon makes an impression on the town, including his new school mates… and especially Ariel Moore (Lorna Want) the Reverend’s daughter.
Played by Steven Pinder (Max Farnham in Brookside), the strict Reverend has banned all dancing in the town – but Ren (whose feet can’t stop a movin’) is on a mission to change that!
Not only was the show filled with classic 80s anthems – they are teamed with the most powerful voices.
One in particular stood out in this incredible bunch – Rusty (Jodie Jacobs) – wow that girl can sing, especially in her rendition of – Let’s Hear It For The Boy.
Rusty and friends Wendy-Jo (Tanya Robb) and Urleen (Keisha Amponsa Banson) held a lot of the big hits, all had exceptional note perfect voices.
The role of Ren was played by understudy – Adam Booth who did a great job at portraying the troubled teen.
His hilarious side-kick Willard Hewitt (Giovanni Spano) had the audience crying out with laughter.
With impressive choreography and hits include Holding Out For A Hero, Almost Paradise and of course the title track Footloose – this show is a real must, resulting with the whole audience up on its feet!
Dancing is not a crime – to miss Footloose would be!
